It’s not uncommon that the beach properties are sold out for the Fourth of July, but there is an article in the News Herald this morning that said every hotel room has also booked for this week. In fact the last two weeks of June were booked solid and most of July is sold out.
That’s great news for the businesses in the area, but many more benefits come from the bed tax paid by our guests. Last year the bed tax generated over $3 million in July, and this year the bed tax will surpass that record number. In fact, early indications show the June receipts will be over the $3 million mark, another record for June.
These funds are used to enhance the area with bike paths, sidewalks, landscaping and improvements to create an environment that will invite our visitors back. Some of those funds will be used for advertising in locations such as Texas, Kentucky, Tennessee, and northern cities like Chicago, Baltimore and New York City that have access to direct flights to the Panama City Beach airport, located 13 miles from the Gulf of Mexico.
The future is bright for the World’s Most Gorgeous Beaches.
